Autumn

I'm sorry to say that it has been a while since I wrote on here but there have been various personal etc reasons. Suffice it to say that I am now able to spend more time on this platform and in my Etsy shop RedRococoGarden. I have also recently joined a Book Circle and have so far read and discussed 'Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine St Exupery. Our next book will be 'Notes from an Exhibition' by Patrick Gale which I have read, but which we are yet to discuss. I have also joined a Poetry Circle and have had a meeting on the theme of 'Expectations' which was quite tricky but also open as to its theme so I found a couple of poems about what one might expect to find on a walk in the countryside (John Clare), and what one might expect to find but be disappointed (Carol Ann Duffy's poem on elms). Our next meeting will contain poems by the romantic poets: Byron, Keats, Shelley and Wordsworth.

I have also been to quite a few events at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, which is in easy reach of where we live, and enjoyed hearing Phillippa Gregory and Jessie Burton talk about their latest books and watching/listening to a session on Trees in Art sponsored by the Woodland Trust (amongst other interesting talks). For the first time this year, on its 70th birthday, the Festival has been recorded by Sky Arts and I now have a plethora of programmes on my planner to catch up with. I particularly enjoyed Robert Harris's interview and, if you like political thrillers, abe has a useful list of which many have been made into films or televised: https://www.abebooks.co.uk/books/political-thrillers/. Also for keeping up with book developments is Mariella Frostrup's Radio 4 programme, Open Book.

For followers of Jane Austen there has been the television series of Sanditon on ITV, though Jane herself left only a few pages giving a sketch of characters and fragment of plot which has now been constructed into an edifice. I expect there will be a division of opinion over this.

I have expanded the remit of the shop a little since its inception and the shop now includes bookmarks and postcards (which can also make good bookmarks!). Also in the shop are desk accessories, such as bookends, and perhaps a few cute ornaments or paperweights to keep you company while you sit at your desk or table. I have decided not to include cakes in new photos of books since I am now vegan and am aware of the problems of high cholesterol. It may take a while to amend the existing pictures - there are always vegan cakes, of course, but the content of the cakes are not obvious from the pictures!  I have also decided, as a trial, to ship items out only to the UK being as aware as everyone else of the high carbon cost of plane travel. If a potential customer has a valid reason for requiring a specific item which cannot be acquired in their country or nearby, the request will be considered. Given the high cost of postage abroad for heavy items, especially to the United States and Australia, this may be prohibitive in itself!

I have just about run out of time today - keep reading!
